Volunteer Overview

Cambodia is a land of temples and spirituality, of love and hope, but the decades of war, land mines, poverty and disease mean that Cambodians face a large number of challenges. Cambodians have worked around these difficulties with a lot of creativity, and there are few places in the world with as many rewarding volunteering opportunities as Cambodia.

As a volunteer aboard with ROV you will work side by side with the villagers as they struggle to lift themselves out of poverty; parents want clean water and dry homes, children want to learn English to allow them to work in the tourism industry and the community needs a regular supply of food and access to clean water to sustain itself. You will be a part of building the future for this Cambodian village.

In the lush green farmland around Siem Reap where villagers live on less than $2.00 per day, you will teach English at the local school, build brand new homes for families in need, assist in delivering new facilities and life enhancing skills to disadvantaged rural children and orphans. You will also be immersed in cultural activities and spend an afternoon exploring the historic and UNESCO listed Angkor Wat.

As a volunteer abroad with ROV you will spend a week at the elephant refuge and help provide a home for displaced, mistreated and unemployed elephants that are too expensive for their former owners to maintain.

You can take the seven-day extension option and volunteer abroad for longer and take your work at the elephant refuge even further.

Volunteer abroad for longer by adding an extension

The Cambodia Village Development and Elephant Refuge program lasts 15 days, but it doesn't have to end there... Volunteer abroad again; adding one of these voluntering opportunities as an extension means you will be able to stay longer and achieve so much more, or enjoy another program, for much less than the cost of joining two separate programs.
