Another day at the crèche and another unforgettable experience. Being greeted by smiling, happy and energetic kids should be the way everybody starts their day…! Even though we had lots of work to do, with the kids around, their energy flows onto us and gets us pumped!
Today’s tasks; Continuing rendering the building, sanding down the inside walls of the soup kitchen, painting the soup kitchen, filling in any cracks, making cement, tiling the roof, finishing the wall using cement blocks and putting up skirting boards? Did I mention we were working hard? Well, if I didn’t…we were working HARD! The kids also wanted to get involved and help; it’s great to see them taking an interest in what is going on at such a young age and recognising in their own way, that they want to help us 🙂 Again, in the African heat and using already strained muscles, I am impressed with the commitment of the volunteers. I promise you, the hard work will pay off!
Every day we also bring lunch for the kids. Watching them eat in their tiny seats with their happy contented faces, just makes our lunch all that more satisfying 🙂
The afternoon was spent continuing the work and heading back in the safari truck after it was done. As a treat we headed to the local beach to wash away the sweat, mud and paint and take a few minutes to relax. It was great to wind down after a hard day. On our arrival back dinner was gobbled down to the last borewors (sausage) and we decided to have a movie night. Bring on tomorrow!!
