Thursday and Friday were busy and hot days at the creche. We had to finish a number of different things so that we could give the keys to the principle of the creche when we left on Friday afternoon.
We had to finish putting up the ceiling and then paint it.
The walls inside teh creche needed to be sanded down and painted with several coats, so a few of the volunteers got to work on that.
We needed to cover the septic tank as we were concerned that leaving it open could result in a small child falling in, so we boarded it up and then made a frame and mixed concrete to lay a slab over the top.
We also need to paint the outside of the door and windows.
Everyone got involved with the two days work, which also included mixing a huge amoutn of concrete to lay the topping on the inside floor of the creche, fixing the gate so that the site was totally secure, sanding down the door and window frames, collecting sand in order to mix the concrete and the list goes on!
I am pleased to say that we did it! We finished what we had to do and handed the keys to the principal of the creche, Slindile.
So that is now it! From Monday the children in the local, rural area will be using this creche for their days of learning. ROV and the rural community would like to say thank you and a huge well done to every volunteer that has been working on this site since we started on the 27th May 2013! Here is the finished product of all your work, sweat and tears!
