Welcome to our new home!
(Apologies in advance for what will be smaller blogs over the next week. We are out in the incredible South African wilderness with very dodgy internet abilities. Will do our best every day to show you a snapshot of the amazing things we are witnessing and doing each day)
Today we packed up our rooms and hit the road for our Gamepark reserve week. While it was extremely sad to say goodbye to the beautiful town of St Lucia everyone was eager to take on our next adventure.
After arriving in our new home we split into groups and headed out into the Gamepark for guided walks through the area by the extremely knowledgeable Peter and Uys. We were able to learn about the importance of the different soils, plants and animals that make up the ecosystem here. (The Circle of Life you could say after last nights movie)
While travelling through the Gamepark we were lucky enough to witness a group of 40 Buffalo and and Wilderbeast drinking from the local dam. It was a phenomenal sight and allowed us to see the power of the animals as they stampeded away after we entered their area. It is so exciting to know we will have more chances over the week to not only view these animals but work towards ensuring their safety and health by volunteering here.
After all the travel and walking we settled down at the end of the night around the bonfire, singing songs, telling jokes and ghost stories underneath a beautiful starry night sky.
Life don’t get much better than this!
