Today we were leaving the sanctuary and heading for the town of st lucia! An early start and some last minute packing saw us on our way. We arrived at around 10am and got settled into our new rooms. Then it was time for an orientation around town…finding the grocery store, laundry, souvenir shops and all
The essentials. It was luxury compared to what we were used to!
Our afternoon however was spend riding horses within a game park…seeing zebras, warthogs and bushbucks up close on horseback was a special experience! The African sun was beating down on us and we truly felt like we were on safari! Some volunteers even got to trot and canter through the park…a great orientation into st lucia!
The evening had even more in store for us. We had a traditional Braii and a Zulu language class where we all attempted to make clicking noises and many new words. Some volunteers even go up and tried their hands at Zulu dancing in which you have to raise your feet above your head and slam your heels down…a totally unique type of dancing! We shall be practising our new skills when we head out into the crèche and work with the kids.
In the evening after the days adventures the group headed into town to have a relaxing night meeting new people and enjoying each other’s company.
