Today we were hard at work building a crèche and meeting the St Lucia kids who will eventually get to use it.
While mixing our own cement and laying bricks is physically challenging, to quote another volunteer, “I’m in Africa; I’m always winning.”
The second you meet the kids you have one of them in your arms, one on your shoulders and two holding your hands all while attempting to dance to Eye of the Tiger. If that’s not the best way to spend time with the community here, I don’t know what is.
To end the day we went on a boat ride to view hippos and crocodiles. The water was also shared by bull sharks. It was a surreal experience.
We are all keen to rest and then get back to work as soon as we can.
