My name is Jess and I am one of the team leaders here in Africa! I’m a week late to the party sorry but I’m here now and already impressed by what I see has been achieved and by the awesome volunteers themselves. Please feel free to comment on any of these blogs 🙂
This weekend was great! I arrived on Saturday afternoon to find the volunteers has already worked a tough half day continuing the septic tank hole. I was excited to see it on Monday as id heard only huge things about it! I would have to wait however, as the weekend was a time for everyone to relax, unwind and get ready for a big next week!
So it was down to the beach, walking through the markets and a delicious meal together that night that made the Saturday great. It was also a relatively early night as the next morning it was a 4am wake up to see some more dolphins!
As sleepy as we all were in the morning, the excitement of heading out onto the water fixed that. Jumping in the small boat and zooming out through the morning waves was great! Unfortunately we didn’t run into any dolphins today, but at the same time we had a great snorkel over the reef and its fish, and had fun trying to swim down as deep as possible! Afterwards it was time for eggs and bacon, there may have been a few naps had, but the day was full of delicious milkshakes, beach swimming, market shopping and relaxing. What more could you want from a Sunday…oh wait…what about a local children’s Christmas concert! It was so adorable to see them all singing carol and their elf costumes and the entrance fee went straight back into the school. The pictures just don’t do it justice!
A traditional Braii for dinner, cards and then off to bed. Tomorrow the hard work would start!
