Today was another fantastic day here in the beautiful countryside of Mozambique. We woke up this morning in our beautiful location next to the beach and enjoyed a breakfast of the fresh local bread that the people here bake in wood ovens before the sun even rises. Smothered in peanut butter and bananas, it’s a breakfast for [our] champions!
We walked out to the school just in time to have some fun with the kids before they started school. After the kids (and the volunteers) settled down, we got going with a few new projects, which included re-weathering the house for the teachers and replacing some of the walls for the older classrooms. We also kept on with our work on some of the other projects we’ve been working hard on, like the septic tank that is, after today, now over 2 metres deep!
At lunch we had our food crew of the day, Rachel, Allie and Amy, go grab some bread from the market to make some lunch for everyone. After taking everyone lunch and a good break of sunbathing (and even a few naps!) we headed back into work with wrapping up the classroom and teachers’ rooms.
After some more play with the kiddos and some more work with the teachers’ rooms and toilets, we headed back to our accommodation for some showers and beach time. We were graced with some delicious Portuguese peri-peri chicken and chips!
Now we’re all wrapping up the night with card games and stories as we watch for falling stars. All is well!
Until next time!
