Well I am the first person to admit that my doubts were unwarranted…the group actually got up in time to head off to the school at 5:30am! Now the reason we decided to do this was because the earlier we started the earlier we finished and then were able to have more time to make the most of the beach, as yesterday was really hot! Now wouldn’t you know it…all day today it was cloudy and even a little bit of rain! Regardless, everyone worked really hard, making concrete and starting the walls of the septic tank. It’s great to see something happening in that big hole in the ground!
We also were finishing off the toilet block walls so that we could put on a roof. This required hauling a lot of stones to add to the concrete mix. The Mozambique staff are always finding unique and amazing ways to do things over here. After we had filled a wheelbarrow with stones we realised it was almost too heavy to take back through the sand. Solution? Tie wire and a stick and to the wheelbarrow and get two people to pull…exactly like a horse/ox and cart! So for the rest of the day my little ox’s worked very hard 🙂 We got around 4 brick layers high and had to stop to make sure they all set perfectly. By this time it was knock off time!
Unfortunately the sun had still not come out but spirits were still up and we went for a lovely lunch in town. Looking over the beach is still beautiful even if it’s slightly raining. Our late afternoon was spent shopping in the markets, exploring the town, having a few well-deserved naps and playing some very competitive card games!
Dinner was scrumptious as always and it was an early night for everyone. I think tomorrow might be a 7am start haha
