Bon dia! (Hello in Portuguese)
Today was our last day before the weekend in the school, which means we had a lot of work to wrap up! But befroe we could even get started with our work this morning, everyone got really excited about the BACON we had for breakfast! “Bacon, is good for me.” especially on toast with eggs and cheese (and salsa!)
But once we got to the school we got straight to work on painting 2 different buildings, one, the teachers’ building from the day before, and the other a classroom that needed some work. Both came out excellent and full of color!
We also got started on a new project, which is the new classroom that we’re building for the school to start making class sizes a bit smaller than their usual 30-40 kids. Despite starting from scratch, we were able to finish putting up the support poles and cementing them in before it was time to leave this afternoon.
And on a special note, the septic tank is ALMOST finished! This 2 metre-deep hole is finally wide enough and almost deep enough. We also found about 20 grubs in it today, which Kiki loved since she’s a grub. Rufus also loved it because she finally got to meet Kiki’s extended family here in Africa.
Once we got back from the school, a few of us even went for a nice dip in the ocean, and even collected a few snails. Great way to end the day!
Tonight we’re enjoying some curry, thanks to Anna (meh) Bernie (wooo) and Rufus (bleh) which was vegetarian minus the boerewurst that Frans was kind enough to prepare for the carnivores. Cai and I also enjoyed mixing more peri-peri sauce in because spicy and yum. We’re all “settling down” now that it’s the weekend, so we’re playing tough games like Spoons and Egyptian Rat Screw, which has become a quick favorite amongst the group!
See you after the weekend, we have some fun planned!
P.S. Candace and Narelle are awesome because they sit on the couch with me while everyone runs. What champs.
