Today, we all grabbed an early start to eat breakfast and see the morning ocean before heading out to the school to get started playi–uhh-hem, I mean working!
Once we arrived at the school this morning, we started working very hard on our skills with sand soccer. The kids wanted to play a game of sand soccer (the calf and glute workout is intense,) so of course we got right on it! We had our own coach and cheer squad, which quickly got disheartened when we all saw how good the kids were. I think the final score was something around 7-1? Almost just like the Germany vs Brazil World Cup game!
Soon after our stunning defeat, we got busy working. We finished up weathering the roof for the soon-to-be toilet house, and we even had the foundation dug out by lunch time! After lunch we started to make progress on digging out the septic tank for the toilets, as well as adding some of the poles that will support the frame of the house once we have laid the cement foundation and put up the walls. And last of all, we also finished up repainting the office building! It took some stretching for everyone to reach the roof to paint the top, but we did it!
As you can tell, we’ve made some massive progress in just our first 2 days of helping here! Frans and I are pretty excited to see what all we can get done before it’s time to go. We’re planning extra!
Tonight everyone is kicking back and relaxing, getting a good night’s sleep, and making sure we enjoy the beautiful braai that Frans is getting cooked up for us!
Keep up with us for more posts in the future! Hopefully we won’t have any more issues with the wifi, but keep in mind that we are in a third-world country! I’m not sure what got posted last night in terms of photos, so I’m going to post as many as I can while I can! Hope you enjoy!
