Blessed walks.

This morning at Lek’s insistence (the founder and very inspirational leader of close to a dozen sanctuaries) we followed the two elephants as they trekked through the forest foraging for food and just generally being Elephants in the sanctuary. It was pretty cool to see just how they moved as they were walking through the…

Progress!

Today is always my favourite day of the week, it’s the day that will make one of the biggest differences in the long run. It is where we head out into the local community and teach English at the school there. It is one of the few exposures to english that these children get and…

Planting and learning!

There was a massive downpour last night, so our original plan to shovel fertiliser was scrapped. We took advantage of the loosened soil to get planting. This place is very self sufficient so much of what both the elephants and volunteers eat is self grown! We visited the nursery to pick up the trees we…

Dam that’s hard work!

The first full day of work and we got right into it, at least we wanted to. After the tractor got some hasty repairs we loaded up the cart with rocks, cement, shovels, trowels, buckets and a few small items that I have no idea what their name is. All things that will help us…

So it begins!

The Elephant sanctuary, a place that is such a beautiful paradise for the gentle giants and the volunteers. We settled into our bungalow accommodation, very rustic but quaint places for us to rest in-between our work. We come to this place to insure there’s a future for the Elephants while at the same time rehabilitating…

That’s it folks!

What better way to end our time here in Cambodia then doing some karaoke! The bus ride from the sanctuary was short, but none of us had any issue taking a little nap. Once we got to the hotel, it was free time. Everybody hit the markets for some last minute shopping and souvenir buying….

#Blessed

Today was HOTTTT! We started the first half of the day by planting trees! We planted around 4 truckloads of young saplings that were previously planted by last years volunteers. It ended up being around 300+ trees!! After another tasty vegetarian lunch, we headed out for our walk to the bathing pond to scrub down…

Cambodian Kids are ADORABLE!

Hey friends, it’s Ellen, Chris, and Catherine reporting to you live from the jungle! This morning we were glad to see each other alive and well after having some uninvited guests attempt to stay the night in our bungalows. By uninvited guests I mean a massive grasshopper and a friendly shoe-chewing rat. At 8am we left…

Pipe down you ho! (Pipes and Gardening tools)

Hello world! This is Rachel from the states and Chloe from the land down under coming to you live from Cambodia! Today we woke up early (again) after we went to bed early (again). The weather was quite temperate, a lovely day overall. After breakfast; toast, rice, and morning glory, we split into our two…

Look at her ho!

First full day at the elephant sanctuary was amazing! The food here is SO GOOD, and over all it’s just such a peaceful and beautiful place to spend time in. This morning we split our large group of 20 in two. The first group worked on building a dam to create a second watering hole…
