Wheels on the bus go round n round!

Hey! This is Gavin, I’m one of the volunteers in Danielle’s group. Danielle has done so much for us that she needed a break and give me a chance to write this. She knew I’d do a better job! So today was a travel day. The thought of having a 2-hour bus ride was quite…

A very tough farewell.

I’ve been sitting here for the last ten minutes trying to come up with the right words to somehow convey how incredible the last two weeks have been and the people that made it that way. I realised I can’t. The volunteers, what we have done, the experiences we have shared, the difference we have…

Back to Siem Reap (Plus photos from the whole week!)

It is finally here our final day at the sanctuary. We spent the morning feeding Arun Rai and Kumlin on final time, saying our farewell to these gentle giants. Afterwards we visited the monkey enclosure. Unfortunately we weren’t allowed inside as two of the monkey’s had escaped and were still on the loose but we…

The last day at the Sanctuary

It is one of those bitter sweet moments. It is the last full day we wake up in this unbelievably beautiful paradise. We have achieved so much but the end of our time together is drawing uncomfortably close. That didn’t stop the volunteers from getting stuck into it! We spent a lot of the morning…

Teaching the locals!

What a day! It was an early rise where we left the sanctuary to go and teach at the local school. The volunteers split up into groups of two and three to go and teach the six classes of Cambodian students. They were a little apprehensive at first but they quickly dove into it getting…

The first three days!

I am sorry I am not able to get up any photos as Wifi is still down and I’m using one of the workers phones and in this rural area getting photos uploaded in next to impossible but here is the account of the last three days of our volunteers. I hope you enjoy it!…

Wifi is down!

Were out at the sanctuary and everyone is safe and sound! We’ve been getting into the work with enthusiasm . I’ve been writing¬†the blog but with the wifi down I haven’t been able to upload it or the photos. It has literally taken me 45 minutes to post this much using one of the volunteers…

Final Shopping Day and departures :(

We rolled into Siem Reap today a little sleepy after the bus ride from the elephant sanctuary, but happy to be back in the bustling city. We spent most of the day organizing suitcases and taking a much needed hot shower. In the afternoon we went for some last minute shopping, followed by foot massages…

#blessed & Last day!

What a bittersweet way to end the week. It rained most of the day which was a nice break from the extreme heat and humidity. We planted a few more cart loads of trees in the large open field and had one last chance to bathe Arun Rai before we head home tomorrow. Once we…

School visit

We had the opportunity to teach English this morning at the local school. There were 6 classes for us to spread out and teach. We broke up into groups of 2 and quickly planned a lesson. Most of us went over numbers, the alphabet and body parts with the younger students, while the older ones…
