As a matter of fact, today is Thursday June 5th but here at the elephant sanctuary it is so easy to lose track of time. For our generation it’s pretty cool, to come to a place where we don’t have to rush from class to work. We aren’t worried about Facebook posts or Instagram likes. This week without wifi has been – refreshing!
Instead we have gone back to the basics and it has kept us busy, although we have managed to play a few game from when we were growing up like Spoons, Crazy 8s and making paper airplanes.
Today was quite busy. We began by watering all of the plants that we planted yesterday. Although we are in the rainy season it has been a bit dry to past few days. We also started to plant bamboo around the entrence of the sanctuary. After chopping, planting and watering we took a small break before lunch.
After lunch it was time to bathe with the elephant! It was about a 45 minute walk through the jungle, with an escort of the elephant herself to help clear our path. Once we got to our oasis we bathed, splashed and got muddy.
Luckily all of our mud came off when the sky opened up and rained with no apologies. We’d like to think of it as the best hike ever!
**My apologies for the lack of pictures. I am having some difficulties with the Internet to upload them. Once I figure it out I will post our pictures!
