My name is Jess and I’m the Team Leader of this awesome group for the next week. Ill be making the daily blog for you all to enjoy (and perhaps be a little jealous of) back at home. Feel free to comment!
Ive been here in Phnom Penh for the last few days excitedly awaiting the arrival of my new volunteers! The day consisted of airport pick ups and meeting volunteers at the accommodation. It was a free day to explore this new and exciting city; some went to the markets, others to the killing fields to learn about the recent Cambodian genocide and some just stayed in for a nice nap. Most of the group was there for dinner where everyone got the chance to try out thier taste buds out on some local Cambodian food. The favourites of the night were Amok and Lok Lac. After dinner it was time to explore the city at night at the local night markets and riverside, while the last few volunteers arrived in the evening.
Tomorrow we head to the province of Moldulkiri and the town on Sen Monorom where we will be working to help rehabilitate rescued elephants! Everyone is very excited and keen to get started!
So…everyone should get ready to experience a new culture with fascinating things to see around each corner like Tuk Tuks, markets galore, traditional Khmer food (and maybe the odd cricket or two for those game enough), massages, Angkor Wat Temples and so much more! I can’t wait to get to know you all, and knowing that you’re coming out here to truly make a difference in the lives of so many makes me that much more excited!
