The adventure began this morning as we all met in the lobby with our bags packed ready to make our way to Sen Monorum and the elephant sanctuary! A fresh bakery breakfast was had and it was onto the mini buses. The day was filled with cheerful chatter, naps, riddles and lots of snacking. There were many opportunities to stretch our legs and of course buy more snacks! Lunch was a picnic lunch of sandwiches and fresh fruit 🙂
The final leg of the journey took us through the beautiful jungle of Cambodia with different sights to see out each window. It was with a sigh of relief once we arrived at our destination and after a quick bag drop off we headed for a wander through the town. The local markets of fresh fruit and meat were an eye opener but I think the volunteers hearts were stolen by the local kids who just want to run up to you, high five and say hello!
For dinner and we walked up to the local restaurant to have a buffet style spread of local Cambodian food and some delicious fruit shakes and fresh coconuts! YUM! It was an early night however as most were still tired for their arrivals and it’s an early wake up tomorrow at 6am. Where we will go and explore the forest for elephants!
