Sadly today was our last day at the elephant sanctuary but happily we got to hang with elephant’s allllll day! In the morning It was a descent into heaven valley with massive banana trees on our shoulders so we could feed the elephants their favourite snack! We set them down nearby the river and waited to them to arrive. Now, in case you hadn’t realised, elephants are very smart! And these elephants could smell bananas a mile away and made a beeline for them! Luckily they were diverted to the river for their morning swim and our banana plants were saved and ready for us to feed them! They loved them and munched away 🙂
Of course it was time for our favourite part of the day Siesta, and the last day was not wasted in terms of hammock napping, couch laying, card playing and playing with the little puppy Kiri in residence!
In the afternoon it was time to head down to the second valley and so some heavy lifting by bringing banana trees down with us. Once we were down there the elephants again snuck up on us and got to those bananas in a blink of an eye…it really is their favourite food! Being so close to one of these magnificent creatures really is an amazingly unique experience and one that I don’t think the volunteers will forget any time soon.
It was sad moment when we had to say goodbye to the elephant sanctuary, but the memories that were had there won’t be forgotten. As a special treat tonight we headed out somewhere different tonight and indulged ourselves in a big ol burger with fries! It was a great night with all the staff from the elephants there too. Off to Siem reap tomorrow where we will continue to adventure!
The blog will be moving locations over to the Siem Reap Blog! Id love if those of you at home would continue to follow. The web address is:
