Saving the jungle one tree at a time

We have the power! After some raking and fire break work this morning, we trudged out into the jungle with an elephant as a guide to save the trees. We went around a tied orange cloths that were blessed by Cambodian monks. Once tied around the trunk, anyone who cuts down the tree is believed to be eternally unlucky. According to the buddhist practices, nobody will cut them down if they have these tied around them and it is a very powerful thing to be able to do. It is so cool holding the fate of a tree in your hands and knowing that those trees will be there forever because of you.

We also got one final bath with the elephant today. It was all together this time and was definitely something we will never forget. There was just sheer joy in everyone today. Tonight we sat around the campfire, roasting marshmallows, telling stories, dancing and playing games. It was the perfect way to end our time together and say goodbye to the sanctuary. Tomorrow we head back to Siem Reap and then we will part ways on Saturday. This is our last full night all together outside of civilization, and we absolutely made the most of it!
