we don’t want to go!

Our last day on the island has come and gone 😭😭😭😭 we are all so sad about this!   The entire morning, cats and dogs were pouring down – this meant we couldn’t get any more small projects done at the school, since that would have involved cement work, but we came up with a…

coral pods? CHECK! finish water catchment? CHECK! have fun?! CHECKKKK!

I think Wednesday was a favorite for all of the volunteers! So much fun was had and all of our biggest projects¬†were¬†completed! in the morning, we headed over to the school to work on the water catchment gutter system as well as finish up our paint job – our second coat of paint ended up…

Rollin’ in the deep

How-deeeeey friends and famileeeeey! Island life is stretching on quite swell. Rain is coming in intermittent patches a bit more than last week… This interfered with putting pipes in the trench we dug, so we suited up for our inclement weather back-up: painting the library that a previous group of volunteers built earlier this summer!…

Certified!!!…. kind of

They did it! Teneeka, Sammy, Rhiannon and Kevin are certified! Technically, that is. They’ve completely all of their requirements for their PADI open water licenses! I say “technically” because paperwork isn’t filled out until the end of the week, but they can now dive without our instructor and explore the vast new world the underwater…

Lazy sundaze

The weekend has sadly come to an end… but Sunday was great! We embarked on a 45 minute hike over to Nature Beach, where there’s neat swings, more beautiful beaches, and EVEN WIFI at one of the restaurants! Hopefully everyone heard from their loved ones while we did some wifi cruisin’ during lunch, catching up…

Cruisin’

The first half of the weekend has been going swell!   Most of Saturday consisted of a nice little cruise down to the tourist side of the island, where we swam around in the amazingly turquoise waters and layed around on the white sand. During lunch, a friendly cat came over and sat on everyone’s…

hi ho, hi ho, it’s off to work we go

Friday already came and passed?! How did that happen! Time is flying here on the island… I feel like I just picked everyone up from the airport yesterday! Friday was awesome – we were able to get a good amount of ground work done already! We headed over to the school in the morning to…

In love with the coco

This group is flying by with their PADI requirements! Everyone is diving fantastically, and enjoying their time underwater. The Open Water crew got to go on their first dive yesterday practicing skills with Kylie, and so we all got to see the coral reef and the pods that ROV has been working on for the…

Floatin’ on

Another great day in paradise!   All of the open waters finished their book work yesterday morning – good job, everyone!! Now that the book work is out of the way we’ll have more time to start work on our ground projects, such as preparing our coral pods for deployment next week as well as…

life is the bubbles under the sea

Our first full day on the island was absolutely jam packed!   Our morning was filled with studying, watching SCUBA videos and quizzes for the four who will be getting their open water PADI licenses. Kaileigh and I studied a bit for our advanced open water (she studied while I procrastinated), and Ashley is already…
