Wednesday 28th May
Today was another day all about diving. The Open Water team studied their scuba info and took exams while the Advanced divers (Tom, Marachel and Kelsie, who have renamed their team the Somersaulting Sea Squirts so as to be less elitist) went for another skills dive.
After lunch the newbie divers went off for a dive too while the Sea Squirts and I worked on rendering up at the playground. We mixed concrete and rendered around the low wall of the playground. After an hour or two of work we came back to home base to meet the rest of the crew and go for another dive, all together. The boat was loaded with us and our gear although luckily we weren’t going far. The Seq Squirts had to do advanced buoyancy skills like turning somersaults (hence the name), standing and spinning on their head and taking weights without moving up or down. The rest of us did the same skills for fun and practice although with considerably less aplomb.
After the dive we hung out at home base, chatted, played Uno and later got involved in the local English class. We helped Vollox with English, learned a lot of Khmer and found out that some of our names are pretty funny in Khmer (especially Joey!),
Tomorrow we get really stuck into work around the village although diving in the afternoon too of course!
