Our first full day in the village started off with a morning walk around the community with our diving instructor Kylie. He showed us all the different projects ROV has worked on in the past, as well as the new projects our group will be working on.
We then got started on reading the open water dive manual and knowledge review. While the majority of the volunteers studied, the three advanced divers we have on program with us got to take their first dive! After lunch the open water divers got to head out on the boat to go over the basic diving drills, and take a much needed dip in the ocean. While they dove and cooled off, myself and the three advanced divers got started on cement mixing and brick laying up at the water catchment. It was a hot and sweaty afternoon, but we got a chunk of it done!
In the evening, we watched the sunset from sunset rocks and played with the kids. Later we played some games and a few people took a walk over to coconut beach to see the bioluminescence again. Tomorrow will be another morning of knowledge review, the last before everyone gets in the water with all the diving gear! Everyone is itching to get the studying over and done with, and get in the water!
