Edit: Apologizes that this post did not work yesterday. I have re-posted it for everyone. This is Christmas Day!
Today was a very special rest day! Instead of heading out to the village today, we decided to wake up at 4 am on Christmas Day and visit Angkor Wat for the sunrise! It was absolutely stunning. We spent the entire morning visiting Angkor Wat and two other temples: Bayon and Ta Prohm Temple. Spending the holidays away from home is something new for just about everyone here but we were able to experience something so enormously majestic with great, new friends and it made it all worth it.
After the morning we went back into town for lunch and an afternoon of relaxation. While some went off to get full body massages (much needed at this point!!) others rested up or had the chance to Skype with family back home for the holiday. At dinner that night we had a little gift giving ceremony for those who celebrate Christmas. Each volunteer is now the proud new owner of the famous Cambodian elephant pants, a hammock (that will be of great use at the elephant sanctuary), and chop sticks!
After dinner we headed straight off to a Cambodian circus. It was much like an acrobat show – crazy flips, twirling, swirling and joints bent in not so fun looking positions. A very new but fun experience.
Tomorrow is an exciting day as we challenge ourselves to finish the house! It’s the last day at the village for everyone and it’s sure to be an emotional one. Everyone’s a bit anxious to get back!
