Day 10 – building and playing!

It was a 7am breakfast this morning. We also watched as the downstairs and outside part of our hotel was converted to a wedding venue! The hotels owners daughter is getting married and it’s going to be a big party…that lasts 2 days! It will be amazing for the volunteers to see a traditional wedding šŸ™‚

After the tuk tuk ride out to the village it was straight to work! The way we work is 1 hour on building then 1 hour working with the kids. In the first hour we finished all of the floor boards and started on the frame for the verandah. By lunch time we had volunteers in the rooftop starting to put on the roof supports. During the morning we also had people helping the community dig out garden beds, remove rubble and help with work around the school.

After lunch it was back to work and most of the time was spent in the roof attaching the grass. This will be our task for most or all of tomorrow as its very time consuming. At least they have a view from up there though! At 3pm there was a special performance put on of traditional Aspara dancing by the local high school. They were in their traditional clothes and it was very cute to watch. But by 4:30 we were bound for Siem Reap!

The evening was spent at a local fair ground! It is a very traditional fair with very few westerners and fun little games to play like darts and shooting games. We also had an epic game of dodgem cars and enjoyed the smells and sights of this unique place. Back to town for dinner and most people were pooped from the day of hard work, that it was an early night! Those that stayed out a little later were invited to the hotels wedding celebrations and enjoyed the company of the local people.
