Day one in da books!

Sues’ day!!

Today was our first full day in Cambodia! Everyone woke up bright at early for a 6:30 am orientation to learn the in’s and out’s of culture and program. At 7:00am our lovely breakfast of fried rice and egg was delivered to our hotel and by 7:30 am we were out the door for the village!!

Our first day at the village for the 2 week village and elephant program first consisted of another orientation about the school itself and the village it is located in. After orientation we got straight into lunch where each of the volunteers got to pair up with a few local children and help prepare the food. The menu consisted of lots of veggies, rice, noodles and stir fry. It was absolutely DELICIOUS!! After our bellies were full we gathered together to learn about the classroom we will be building. And shortly after we got into work. Around 3:00pm our work day was complete and we spent one hour having play time with the kids. There was sport class, dance class and drawing class. Everyone was having a ball and was sad to leave when 4:00pm rolled around and it was time to head back into town.

We washed up when we got back and headed out to dinner at Angkor Famous and Nai Restaurant with the 2 week village immersion group. A few hit the night markets after dinner while others came home to go straight to bed. It was an early night for many because both groups are headed to Angkor Wat tomorrow for sunrise! Can’t wait 🙂

Hey all my lovely blog readers, this is Domdin. After a busy for picking up new arrivals from yesterday, the first starting day is coming. It was an early in the morning, everyone got up at 6 am in the morning and we met down stair for our orientation by Katelyn about our program and a bit Khmer culture. So, after an orientation everyone had a good breakfast and then 2 week village immersion volunteers went with me to their village. When we arrived at the village all our volunteers met Sohpean (principle of the school). In the morning we didn’t work very much because everyone has an orientation by the principle of the school and then we went to see in the village and people lifestyle in the village, and also see a place how Cambodian make a rice wine. It was a really good to know about how to make rice wine! After we went back from the village we got 40 minutes before, so everyone just move woods next to the classrooms to soccer field and we will doing sanding and sawing there. Everyone work hard for a while. From 11 am to 1 pm we had a beak time lunch. After lunch time break we got 30 minutes for a nap and relaxing. From 1 pm to 3 pm we had two groups. The first group we had 6 people and second group had 4 people. The first group was sanding 2×4 woods and the second group sending flat woods for the walls. Everyone was working very hard. After this, at 3.30 pm we a football playing with the kid in school. It was very fun. Tomorrow we are going to see a beautiful sunrise at Angkor Wat and we are going to see the most popular temples in Seim Reap. It will be an amazing day tomorrow!

Time to say, Reatrey Sue Sdey (good night)

Teacher Feature of the day: GEORGIE!!

Hey all!

Today I taught the children in the village school and they taught me too! I am slowly learning phrases in Khmer whilst helping them to improve their English. The highlight of my day was seeing how much the students love playing writing games on my iPhone. As well as this, over the past week we taught them things like how to write their names in English, how to sing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and the moves for the Hokey Pokey. Also, something funny that happened today was when our cheeky team leader Domdin played a prank on me and I chased him around the school-yard.
