Fridays Are For Farewells

Friday was our last day of at the village. Our day was all about finishing what we started. Drainage systems for the school, repairs for the local houses, and some final work on the community vocational center. The day went by fast and in the afternoon we did one final tour of the project sites where the families that we have been helping shared words of gratitude with the group. The volunteers were able to keep their composure… for now.

After the day’s work the celebrations began. The community of Kro Bei Reil was incredibly thankful for everything that the volunteers have done over the past week. To show their appreciation they threw us a party filled with song and dance.

After dinner every volunteer got a chance to make a little speech to the community. Emotions were free flowing. Even the most hardened of the volunteers shed more than a few tears as we all reflected on the amazing experiences we have all shared over the past weeks.

This morning we say our farewells. Its been a privilege to lead this group over the past 2 weeks. As I told them last night, Its because of volunteers like them that Briana and I can wake up everyday and truly say that we love our jobs.
