Hello and welcome to Cambodia!! I am so so SO excited to have everyone here! Don’t worry parents, your loved ones are all safe and sound in the city and in their beds to rest up for tomorrow. We have some big and exciting weeks ahead, and I can’t wait to start!
First off, I would like to take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Tara, and I have been back and forth from this program and the Cambodian Island program. I am very happy to be back in my favorite city in the world! Katelyn has taken her groups off to the elephant sanctuary today and I have taken her place in the village immersion program. Domdin and I will be continuing on to work at the two schools this week and be team leaders for the Village Immersion and Cambodian Teaching Program.
I have been with ROV since August and have loved every minute of it. I love traveling and am very passionate about seeing the world and helping out communities in need as I can imagine is true for you all as well. ROV has made a huge impact on my life and I am excited for this experience to do the same for you. Other than traveling, I also love skiing, hiking, biking and playing sports. I am also quite the human jukebox and love to sing. I have taken it upon myself to learn all the words to every Disney song out there as well as a wide repertoire of random songs. I love puns and dad jokes, I’m obsessed with coffee and recently my favorite flavor ice cream is pistachio. Basically, I’m a weirdo but if nothing else, I’ll be here for entertainment!
Domdin is a wonderful asset to the reach out team as well. He is originally from a nearby village in Siem Reap and has been involved over the last few years with helping us at one of the schools we worked at. I can’t wait to work with him this week! He speaks perfect english, is so much fun to chat to and makes everyone laugh without even trying.
This week we will be working at two schools building three classrooms and teacher work buildings. The kids are adorable and are very excited to meet everyone.
We also have our teachers following up on their third week here. They are doing a great job getting the kids excited to learn and are having fun themselves. I saw them making some cool About Me books tonight and I’m sure will be a hit tomorrow with the kids.
While we were doing airport pickups today, some of the others rested and explored the city. There was also a group that went out to the waterfall about an hour away for a swim and breathtaking view. Sooo fun!
I’ll be updating this blog throughout this week, but if you or your parents want to share in the excitement, please leave your comments below!
Ta for now 🙂
