Departure: Durban King Shaka International (DUR) – you can depart at any time between 8am and midnight on the final day of program and we will drop you off at the airport with time for your flight home.

If you haven’t travelled much, or booked flights before we also offer a flight assistance service in which we help you in booking your flights for program. We’ve booked hundreds of flights for our volunteers, and will make sure you get to where you need to be on the right date. After ten years of international travel we’ve gotten pretty good at it. For more information please take a look on your volunteer profile in the add ons section.

During the first week, you will be living in the heart of a Big 5 reserve (lions, rhinos, elephants, buffalo, and leopards) sleeping to the roars of lions in the distance and waking to the trumpeting of elephants. Don’t worry you are safe at all times, sleeping in comfortable tents around a bonfire in an enclosed area each night. Here you will help remove invasive plants, track the wildlife on foot, participate in game counts, and work with professionals to help the World Wildlife Fund’s Black Rhino Expansion Project. This isn’t a one-day safari or an over-night tourist experience, this is the real Africa!

In your second week you will work on our South Africa volunteer program, building crèches (day care centre) and soup kitchens for at-risk children. You will also build much-needed infrastructure such as classrooms, water catchments and play-equipment. Being able to meet the people you are helping and to see the impact you can make, you will leave your heart in in South Africa!
