For your program you will need to arrive and depart from the following airport/s.

Arrival: Kathmandu Tribhuvan International (KTM) – you can arrive at any time between 8am and midnight on the first day of program and we’ll pick you up from the airport.

Departure: Kathmandu Tribhuvan International (KTM) – you can depart at any time between 8am and midnight on the final day of program and we will drop you off at the airport with time for your flight home.

If you haven’t travelled much, or booked flights before we also offer a flight assistance service in which we help you in booking your flights for program. We’ve booked hundreds of flights for our volunteers, and will make sure you get to where you need to be on the right date. After ten years of international travel we’ve gotten pretty good at it. This project is the perfect mix of cultural immersion, hiking, and making a difference. You will help out at a school, explore the history of Kathmandu, and of course trek through the gorgeous Himalayas to base camp.

During the first week, you will assist locals in the heart of Kathmandu repairing a school badly damaged in the 2015 earthquake. You’ll be spending your afternoons visiting historical parts of the city, learning to cook the traditional Dal Bhat, and of course exploring the colourful markets.

In the second week you’re on 5 full days of trekking in the Himalayas. Each day will be a different experience. You will hear the sounds of the bells jangling on the on the yaks as they head down the path. You will enjoy the fresh mountain air, the waterfalls and the ever changing mountain views that make it one of the most astounding and uplifting treks in the world.

Week two is a great warm-up hike to Base Camp! On the way will see four of the six tallest peaks in the world including Mount Everest, reaching 8848meters (29,028 feet). You will be hiking 4-8 hour each day. Don’t be put off, the motto is “slow and steady”. It is the key to achieving and enjoying your hike!

Day 1 (Sunday)

Your amazing Team Leader will be waiting for you at Kathmandu Airport (KTM) holding a sign and wearing an ROV shirt. They will then transport you to the accommodation venue to settle in and meet other volunteers in your group.

If you arrive before midday, enjoy a guided walking tour around Kathmandu.

After lunch at a local restaurant there will be free time in the afternoon to relax, read a good book, get to know your fellow volunteers, etc.

Enjoy your first group dinner in town at a local restaurant.

Breakfast each day will be at the accommodation venue.

Over the next week you will be involved in a building project at a local school. These schools have been damaged by earthquakes and are in desperate need of repair. Each program set the projects will differ based on the communities needs.

You’ll work hard on project being involved in a number of tasks such as mixing cement, laying bricks, painting, sawing, hammering to complete various construction and beautification projects.

Lunch will be served on site each day.

On return from the project each day you will have some free time at the accommodation to relax.

Dinner will be eaten at a local restaurant each night.

After dinner you can have some free time, explore the local markets, take part in history / language lessons etc.

After breakfast at the accommodation you will be transported by bus and begin the journey to the base of where you’ll be trekking from. Enjoy some spectacular scenery on the way and see rural Nepal in all its beauty.

On arrival you will have some lunch and then go on a walk to a lake that is shrouded by forest and lined by mountains – amazing!

In the afternoon you can visit the local markets for souvenirs or trekking supplies.

Enjoy dinner at a local restaurant.

Make sure to get an early night tonight, as tomorrow you will be commencing your Himalayan Trek!

Breakfast each day will be served at your accommodation.

Each day of the trek you will be waking up surrounded by the snow capped Himalayas. You’ll be accompanied on the trek by your Team Leader and Porters who are there to help you in carrying your luggage.

This trek is such a unique experience as each day you’ll be trekking through different terrains: you’ll walk through the silent rhododendron forest, along the ridges of mountains, drink from waterfalls, place prayer flags at the summit and hop across creeks.

You will conquer thousands of stairs and be able to say that you reached an altitude of 3210m above sea level!

Lunch will be eaten on route each day, and dinner at the local tea houses where you will stay for the duration of the trek.

After breakfast you will start the long journey back to Kathmandu.

We’ll stop for lunch along the way.

On arrival to the accommodation you can have some time to relax after the bus trip. You may want to head into town to do some last minute souvenir shopping or go grab a massage to relax those tired leg muscles after the trek.

You’ll have a final group dinner tonight, and we will treat you to a cocktail / mocktail.

Breakfast will be at the accommodation venue and lunch will be at a local restaurant.

Today you will have the opportunity to visit the UNESCO heritage site of Bhaktapur the old city centre with the remnants of the old palace and many different temples.

Breakfast will be at the accommodation venue.

Today you will be able to get yourself prepared for tomorrow’s trek. If you haven’t finished purchasing all your supplies, this can be done.

Lunch will be at a local restaurant.

Enjoy some free time to relax – you may want to do some more souvenir shopping, or perhaps get a massage.

Dinner out at a local restaurant with your group.

Tomorrow will be a big day as you begin your hike to Everest Base Camp!

Today is the day you begin your trek to Everest Base Camp!

After breakfast you’ll head to the airport to get your flight to Lukla (this flight is included in the program fee) providing the weather permits.

On arrival to Lukla you will then begin an 8km walk to 2660m above sea level.

Enjoy dinner at the accommodation venue and relax after the days hike.

After a nice breakfast at the tea house (you’ll be staying in these throughout the trek) you’ll continue on with the hike, making your way to Namche Bazar which has an elevation of  3,435m. On the way you’ll be able to sneak glimpses of Mount Everest. This is a popular spot to stop and assist in getting you acclimatized to the altitude. There’s even a place to stop for a coffee!

Breakfast each day will be served at the tea houses before continuing with your trek.

It will be hard work, but you will see some of the most incredible scenery in the world, and be able to feel such a sense of accomplishment.

You’ll visit Buddhist Temples, walk through rhododendron forests, walk along mountain ridges taking in the breathtaking views.

There will be a few altitude stops along the way so that you can acclimatise to the altitude.

On day 21 you will finally make it to Everest Base Camp- Yeah! You may want to continue the hike to Kalopatar Peak which allows you to reach a higher altitude than base camp.

Tonight you will enjoy a well earned rest and spend the night in a tea house.

This morning you will be up bright and early to see the sunrise at Everest – talk about an amazing start to the day!

After breakfast you will begin your descent down from Base Camp. Thankfully most of it will be downhill.

You’ll stop along the way for lunch.

Dinner will be at the local tea house where you will stay for the night.

Enjoy an early breakfast before getting stuck back into the trek.

Due to the downhill trek, you will pass places at a much quicker rate than on the way up. You will see trains of yaks, donkeys and their sherpas along the way.

You’ll stroll through beautiful valleys and see the snow capped Himalayan Mountains.

On return back into Namche Bazar you can visit the local coffee shop where they do great coffee and chocolate cake. Did we mention chocolate cake?!

You’ll then make your way back into Lukla.

After calling it a day, you’ll spend the night in a tea houses.

After breakfast at the Tea House, you will make your way to the airport for your flight back to Kathmandu. We allow two days for this on the itinerary as the weather can play a part on flight availability.

On return to Kathmandu you will have some time to relax at the accommodation venue. You may want to go and treat yourself to a massage – you deserve it after all that hiking!

Lunch and dinner will be provided on both days and will either be eaten in Lukla or Kathmandu.

Breakfast will be at the accommodation venue.

After such an intense last two weeks, the day will be yours to explore Kathmandu at a leisurely pace. You can visit the markets, see temples, or just relax at the accommodation.

Lunch will be had at a local restaurant.

Enjoy a celebratory final night in Kathmandu with your group – we’ll even treat you to a drink.

Breakfast will be at the accommodation venue, and lunch at a local restaurant.

Volunteers will be dropped at Kathmandu airport (KTM) for their flights home at various times throughout the day.
