Tuk Tuk Challenge

Tuk Tuk Challenge

(A refundable bond of USD $800 per Tuk Tuk is required).

Tax Saver

Tax deductions available for US and Australian residents. See details in Tab below.

What better way to experience all that Cambodia has to offer than in the back of a pimped out tuk tuk. Throw in a couple of mates and you’re certain to have an adventure you won’t forget.

Okay, so you're foolish enough to read the first paragraph and want to know more. Let's get to what it's all about.

First the Tuk Tuk. Think pimped up tricycle, 150cc engine strapped on and the seat is a lounge chair with an awning. Your Tuk Tuk will sail straight roads like an ocean liner but put it on a bumpy dirt trail at speed and you will regret it for days. Hey, nothing is perfect and that's what makes them such good companions for this adventure. Treat them well and you may avoid a detour to a road side mechanic, Treat them poorly and the mechanics will become your best friends.

To undertake this epic adventure you need find at least one other friend crazy enough to join it with you. If you don’t mind packing light you can comfortably fit a third companion in or pick one up along the way. We will give you two days to pimp your Tuk Tuk (flags, neon lights, paint etc) and learn to drive it, which may or may not be adequate.

Expect to get lost in villages where no one speaks English and maybe even get bogged on back roads or have to sleep in the tuk-tuk when you realise you didn’t book a hotel in advance and there is no where else to go... You may want to avoid a heavy curry on those nights….

To complete the challenge you must get photos of you, your partner/s in crime and your Tuk Tuk in front of a bunch of hard to get to places in Cambodia. Get the photos and you complete the challenge. For those who complete the challenge a party will be held at the conclusion of the event in Siem Reap.

Good luck and we hope to see you at the finish line.

Itinerary

The Tuk Tuk Challenge
Well, it's a No-tinerary really.

We give you a list of places where you get the photos. Using your vast range of tuk-tuk navigational skills, and general pig-headedness you go get them. Tuk Tuk breaks down? Every five kilometres in Cambodia is another mechanic workshop. Probably because the roads are an 8.6 on the Richter scale of horrible. But here's a tip; if it moves and it shouldn't, duct tape, if it doesn't move and it should, WD-40.

All will be good!

Costs

All costs listed below are in USD.
  • Program fee $850 USD per person (min two per team).
  • Program fee $1,700 USD for a team of 3. (Yes! that is 14 days touring Cambodia less than $600 per head!)
  • The above prices include a tax deductible donation from each team of $1000 USD.
  • Refundable bond as long as you return your tuk tuk.*
  • Accomodation: Whilst there are free options of sleeping in your Tuk Tuk to pitching a tent on the side of the road most people should budget $5-$20 per night for accommodation depending on preferences.
  • Food: it’s not hard to find a reasonable meal in Cambodia for $3-$10.
  • Fuel - ~$150 - $200 per team.
  • Spares and repairs $10 for spare parts. Repairs start at $2 for a small touch up job to $50 for a full days work.
  • *you will receive your full bond back at the completion of the adventure as long as your Tuk Tuk is returned on the final day.

Your Team

Teams can either by 2 or 3 members. No lone wolves here. We recommend teams of 2 but if you choose to take a third wheel make sure you pack light. Space and weight will become a critical consideration to complete the challenge if you go three-up.

Accommodation, maps, itineraries etc etc, who cares! This is a crazy team event for which only the strong stand a chance. Dynasties will be built and families torn apart, so select your team wisely and the challenge will be bountiful to you. Choose poorly and the consequences will be painful. The choice is yours. Don’t get it wrong….

Only one member per team is required to sign up once you have paid your deposit we will request your additional team members information.

Insurance

Travel insurance is boring, takes time and costs money. So, why bother? Because it is one of those really sensible things that you have to do. No ifs or buts; get insurance. Injuries do occur, bags will get lost and even the odd bout of cholera can impact your adventure so getting a policy worth the paper it’s written on is critical.

Let’s say you have paid for your airfares, paid the fee for the Challenge and one week before you fly out your dog dies. What to do? Fly out or make proper funeral arrangements for "Old Growler?" With travel insurance you can do the right thing by Growler. Well, maybe Growler's funeral is not covered, but you get the idea.

Check the policy to see what's covered and what's not.

Visas

The Tuk Tuk Challenge

No issues here. For most nationalities provided you have $35.00 US in your pocket when you arrive and there are no outstanding warrants for your arrest you will be in. Easy!

Flights

This adventure starts and ends in Siem Reap Cambodia. You must be at the training ground in Siem Reap on the first day of the program to check your group in. Your Tuk Tuk must be returned to the training ground in Siem Reap on the final day of the adventure.

Too busy for details like landing on the right day in the right town? Completely  understandable. Truly great management is all about delegation so let me handle the details for you. I will get you to Siem Reap and on the right day! I make sure you have a reliable airline and booking agency and get you a good price for your tickets. I'm good at finding  flights that have...

  • Minimum stops and shorter connections.
  • That use single carriers to avoid delayed/missed flights and lost luggage issues.
  • Sometimes it is cheaper to land a day early or leave a day late. I arrange it all including any extra accommodation.
  • I call you and together we book your flights during the call.
You can find me on the Flight Booking Service from the available Add-Ons once you have created a Profile with us. Don’t have a Profile? Click on the Apply Now button above and create one now.
